Black Poppy Productions specializes in identifying, developing, and producing uniquely told stories that value imagination and representation.

Black Poppy Productions started making short films with friends in 2013 and never turned back.

Black Poppy Productions’ feature film “Dylan & Zoey” was released by Gravitas Ventures in 20 theaters in November of 2022 and is now streaming on STARZ and available for download on most VOD platforms. Black Poppy co-produced Nardeep Khurmi’s feature directorial debut, “Land of Gold.” “Land of Gold” was the recipient of the 2021 AT&T Untold Stories Award, premiered at the 2022 Tribeca Film Festival, and after a 2023 theatrical release is now streaming on MAX. Black Poppy’s feature film “Back to Lyla” is available on VOD platforms including Amazon, iTunes, and cable/satellite providers.

In 2023, Julie teamed up with Terry Dawson, a member of the Script to Screen producing course to bring his feature film “The ReWrite.” to fruition. The film went on to win Best Narrative Feature Film at the Martha’s Vineyard African American Film Festival, Best Director at Harlem International Film Festival and three awards at Micheaux Film Festival: Jury Award for Outstanding Feature Film, Outstanding Writing, and Outstanding Performance by Freddy Ramsey Jr. The film is now available on AppleTV, Amazon, and Fandango at Home.

Black Poppy Productions was founded by Julie Bersani. Julie graduated from NYU - Tisch School of the Arts. She has produced critically acclaimed content in theatre, film, and music videos for artists and clients including John Legend and The Grammys.

She is also the Head of Production for boutique commercial production company, Mirth and Merriment, as well as a founding member and resident producer for Ammunition Theatre Company.

She is very excited about supporting thoughtful storytellers who bring their unique point of view and style into their work. She likes stories that are unexpected, strange, funny, magical, and surreal.
